yes most bosses here are Chinese .they work very very hard and expect thst from you.
it makes no difference if you are a tin Horton worker or a optician in walmart very high chance your boss will be Chinese and will expect Chinese standard of high work.

I was in rest room my boss shouted at me he said Jeff you are 1 minute over. you multiply thst by 6 and then 50..num of employees. he said thst is 300 .if I pay 10 dollar hour ..u will make me bankrupt.

I said yes Mr Chan

Luv Vancouver but then I luv LA and shanghai.

My real reason is I love sking.

I would say you need about 500 thousand dollars a year to enjoy a jet style life.

hope this helps

As soon as you leave there will be 5000 willing to take your place from India. They have a population of 1.4 billion and they would sell their limbs just to live in Vancouver.
They would work 26 hours a day and eat nothing but boiled lentils and boiled rice just to live in the most beautiful city in the world.
they have no idea what you are talking about (drug addicts in vancouver. No way . ( you are lying they say. vancouver is just beautiful Mountains and beautiful oceans and lots and lots of jobs .
there you have it .

vancouver was once a beautiful city but its own beauty has been the cause of its destruction.

everyone especially asians have been attracted to its beauty that it now looks old and used.
the beauty is there but its hard to see it as its cover with scars and shows thats it really has been used.

The rich asians are loving it here , as they dine out daily and have the best money can buy.
but for most its a touh place. i mean real tough.
The asians (chinese ) make very shrewd employers and god forbid you take a day off .. you’ll be fired.
I think the city has grown too fast in too short time.
the city is run by those that dont make good decisions like restricting the house prices as they realise disrupting the eaisy money they get from

lifelong vancouver resident here.

if you are looking for short-term adventure, vancouver is probably fun and worth the price of admission for a year or less. come for the summer!

if you want to move here to start a life, i would urge you to reconsider your destination. vancouver is at its heart a desperately imbalanced city. we have the services and amenities of a major city, but we have the industries and economic opportunities of a medium sized town. it is not hard to find a job here, but most jobs are not satisfying and pay you just enough to live here, not to grow. this might be fine in the summer, when the air is warm and the sun shines, but in the winter, this can be a very lonely and depressing place, lots of rain. the smiling wealthy people (who you will see at our designer stores, nice restaurants, etc) all run away to whistler to ski or somewhere warm down south for the winter.

vancouver looks big because of the towers and concentrated infrastructure, but this is a bit deceiving. we are pressed up against the mountains and the ocean, and our strategic location as a port city inflates the importance of our industries. in reality, this is a small town. i see people on the street every day that i know, recognize, etc. the local government is run by a handful of people who all know each other. every year i have friends that leave because they see they have no future here.

i love that people from all over the world have come to make vancouver a beautiful place. but i fear that there is no longer any opportunity here. we have lots of problems already that we have to deal with (homelessness, drug problems, finding good industries, adequate housing) and these will only get worse before they get better. i would hate for someone to move to this city with a dream and have it crushed by the great dead end that is vancouver!

Hi! I am looking for a room near to 1122 Mainland St, Vancouver, BC V6B. How much it could cost? The company will pay me 3000 CAD per month. I would obviosly prefer an small apartment bynear, but it is so expensive an I counldn’t save any money.

I would love that the room be located the nearest as possible to go on foot to work. I am supposed to arrive in september.

Any suggestions? Thank you so much and I wish you a superb day to all of you.

Vacancy rate in Vancouver is at an all-time low of 0.6%, driving up the rental rates of 1-bedroom apartments from $1600 to $2000+ month — IF YOU CAN EVEN GET THEM. There are 100 applicants to every apartment, so some of us have taken to renting rooms in private houses.

Rooms in private residences go for top dollar, from $700 — $900 a month, and climbing every month. The terms are not permanent as many landlords are using it to pay their mortgages, or subsidize their savings by exploiting renters who can’t find anything else. Landlords are so greedy and lack discernment, that they will rent to pretty much anyone, and if you have to share your house with 2 other sketchy roommates — it can put YOU and YOUR STUFF at risk. Not only that, but many of these rooms are illegal, so you can get kicked out if the city finds out.
You are also subject to the whims of the landlord, as they can be quite nosey and in your business, overstepping boundaries of privacy, and put severe limitations on cooking, noise, etc.
You are also subject to them selling their $200K home for 1.5 Million, as many scramble to destroy your peace and quiet by actively renovating the home with invading contractors — but not even caring to give you a break on your rent because of it.
It’s a landlord’s market right now, and them babyboomer homeowners are cashing in.. then

the house will be gone when they make their 1.5 Million, and you’ll be out on the street begging for another decrepid room to rent that costs even more this time than 6 months ago.

Well here we go .

Me think with good wisdom its popped.

4$/ bottle. I believe the curator is analysing the data before it’s posted.

As per my calculations Living in Surrey BC would cost less than Montreal, QC, plus no need for winter tires, garage rental, extremely high car plates and insurance, cheaper grocery, clothing, gas, near 5% less sales taxes (12% instead of near 17%). I found really nicely located end of New Westminster/begining Surrey for $925 1br. 750sqf. heated, pool and nice garden.

I have an apt in a not so good old building about 50min from downtown Montreal by public transit or 30min by car. and it is the cheapest I could find for a 1br. I pay $960 — Internet (no cable or TV, phone..) unlimited $80 (special rate for 1 yr, then will be $105+taxes with videotron), Hydro QC: $75 (I only have a fridge and stove, and light bulbs which I make sure all are off when not using and no a/c!) Garage $150 (they get you there! we need that in -40 winters!)

Can anyone tell me why everyone says it’s so expensive in Vancouver greater area? Moving to Surrey I’d save at least $300 a month with rental related and even more with Grocery.

AKS
Wonderful thats very good set of qualifications you have.
You will surly need to convert these to canadian equivalent.
If you are able to have about 100 to 200 thousand Canadian, you should be able to manage quite well here whilst you study and convert your exam . This is excluding a car, which would add another 25 thoussand to you bidget.
Also try and stay in cheap areas like surrey, these are quite dangerous with gangs (check todays news). but they are very very affordable,. Can get two basement suite for about 750 dollars.

$3,000 bringing the total close to $7,000 per month.

Despite properties being rocket high, wages aren’t to bad
Microbiologist can earn 85,000 plus a year.
This goes up according to experience but you are looking at 120K per year after 5 years.
hope this helps.

Hi
I’m migrating to vancouver this year and i wanna study my phd there so i wanna know about the salary for a microbiologist or such jobs, can i afford the prices such as rent, food etc for one person? I mean can i save any? Can i have an average life wtih this conditions that i said

Thanks for helping me

you are asking very silly questions.
Do your research, you are planning to move to one of the most expensive cities in the worls with two kids
either you take about 2 to 3 million with you, or het a job paying 100-200K canadian minimum
Otherwise your kids will have no future compared to the rich children in vancouver.

#Mohammad Za > Hi there I have few question can you please Answer.
1. I have a family with 2 kids 1 is 7 years old and 1 is 4 years what will be complete expanse of living per month .
2. can u please divide all expanse like how much for 2 bedroom housing cost, food cost , utility bills other taxes
3. The schools are free ? or there is fee?
4. do government of CANADA support children?
5. If i migrate and i didn’t get job right away will government of CANADA support me and my family?

Housing is the main issue in Vancouver.

Ban foreign real estate ownership in Vancouver + higher tax for Canadians who own a non-primary real estate in Vancouver.

I’ll try and break it down a lil.

1 single min wage $11 an hour = $1600 a month. Rent a room in a house or apt from 500-800 a month. Phone $50, food $350, transportation $100 for public transit, random expenses, $150
= $1600 — $1300 = savings of $300 a month

1 Single $22 an hour = $2800 after tax. Rent for a studio = 800-1100 a month + 200 utilities. Phone = $60, food $400, owning an old car $450 a month cause insurance $250 + 150 gas + 50 maintenance. Random expenses $200.
= $2800 — $2260 = Savings of $540 a month

1 single $30 hr = $3600 after tax. Mortage for a $300,000 shoe box apt cost breakdown = 1300 monthly mort + 300 strata + 170 housing tax + 150 utilities. Car payments Insurance 250 + 120 gas + 30 maintenance + 350 finance (toyota corolla). + $70 phone + $400 food + 200 random expenses
= $3600 — $3340 = $260 monthly savings

Note: these are the expenses prior to any enjoyments like watching movies, eating out, ect. Of course if you make more you could save more however people tend to spend more as they make more like getting a car instead of taking transit. Like buying an apt instead of renting.

Hope this helps. If you’re just moving hear and is expecting to live off minimum wage see above what your life style may be like.

I think the solution for those without tons of cash and a high paying job is to adopt undercover «stealth» car/van living..

If you can avoid rent and keep yourself nice, fresh, organized and presentable then maybe this is something to consider.

I don’t know if it’s particularly practicable in Vancouver .. I’ll have to look on YouTube..

This is happening in other places too like Sydney and Melbourne..

Our friends from overseas are buying up everything and housing is Number One !!

Houses in these cities have gone up 300 per cent in the last 3-5 years and still rising every month..
My mothers house, a 3 bedroom bungalow was sold for $68K when she moved to the coast a number of years ago. last year it sold for $1.315 Million..

It’s prosperity through price inflation.. but it’s not a real economy.. there’s no manufacturing, no employment, just inflation through property gambling.

Only on new constructions is there any employment and supply chain consumption.

Wages are stagnated, unemployment and non-registered self funded unemployed and under-employed people are in the millions..

So it’s prosperity through betting on house price inflation. and many people are getting rich.. you see them everywhere .. quite often they don’t even to need to work anymore as they’ve made plenty of money through this .. driving their Range Rovers around town. sipping lattes and cappuccinos in fancy cafes at $4 a pop and a slice of moist orange cake $8 a slice, a fancy burger $12 without fries..

THE WORLD HAS GONE MAD.

Are you serious? The reason everything is as expensive as in Hong Kong is because of people doing exactly what you are planning to do. Am I supposed to feel bad that you couldnt buy your spoiled son a home for under 3 million? NO shit!

how do you think the people who have lived here their whole lives and now have to move away to afford to raise a family or even sustain their own life feel?

Total bull shit. This city has become a pathetic excuse for a community filed with rich snobs with no interest in participating in the city and only spend their money at high end designer stores instead of actually supporting the community. If things do not change, we are going to loose the entire working class in vancouver. and then you can sit in your multi million dollar home with your fancy car and expensive clothes while the entire city dies.

I have news for you: it’s people like you, millionaires, coming from overseas and overinflating our housing market, who are screwing it all up for everyone else.

Coworking Space in Vancouver

Our WeWork locations in Vancouver help you make your business as attractive as the city is. Vancouver is one of the most ethnically and linguistically diverse places in Canada, and is renowned for its innovative programs in environmental sustainability, accessibility and inclusivity. Without a doubt, it’s a smart place to build any business—not to mention a fun place to be. Join us in tapping into the wealth of talent, beautiful scenery, and energetic vibes in this magical city.

Why WeWork for Shared Workspace in Vancouver?

From Gastown to Hollywood North, Vancouver has carried many names over the years—but it’s always been a Canadian gem. Originally a port and manufacturing hub, the city has evolved into a diverse marketplace welcoming businesses from software to biotechnology, aerospace to video game development, film to television, and more into its shared office spaces. Consistently named one of the top five worldwide cities for livability and quality of life, it’s no wonder companies like Lululemon, Herschel Supply Co., and Nature’s Path Organic Foods all have set up headquarters here. You’ll reap the same benefits as they do from this lovely city, but also enjoy WeWork’s flexible leases, ever-flowing coffee, personalized help from Community Managers, spacious common areas, and more. People in Vancouver work hard for their jobs, but even harder for their health and wellbeing, creating an energized and positive vibe that runs (and bikes, and scooters) its bustling streets. If you’re searching for a holistically positive place to base your business, WeWork’s Vancouver locations will get your blood pumping.
